Quick answer
TaxCaller's free tools are 30 online calculators, checkers and generators for Indian income tax, GST, salary and small-business compliance. They cover old vs new regime tax, GST add or remove, HRA, TDS, capital gains, advance tax, late fees and interest, refunds, MSME category, EMI and PPF, plus printable rent receipts, Form 12BB and salary slips. They are free, need no sign-up and run inside your browser.
How to pick the right tool
The tools are arranged by the job you are trying to do, not by section number. If you deal with invoices and tax on sales, start with the GST tools. If you run a business or a practice, the business tools help with registration category, presumptive tax and loan planning. If your question is "how much tax do I owe", the tax tools are the place to start, and if you are salaried, the salary tools explain each part of your pay.
When you are close to filing a return, or something has gone wrong after filing — a late fee, an interest demand, a notice or a delayed refund — the filing tools help. Finally, the generators produce documents you can print or save as PDF in a minute.
Tips for accurate results
- Keep your documents open. Form 16, AIS, Form 26AS, salary slips, broker statements and invoices give exact figures; estimates from memory are the most common source of a wrong answer.
- Pick the right financial year. Where a tool asks for the year, choose the year in which the income was earned, not the year you are filing in.
- Use annual or monthly figures as asked. Each field says whether it wants a yearly or monthly amount. Mixing them up multiplies the error by twelve.
- Read the notes under the result. They point out assumptions and the next step, such as a deposit deadline or a form to file.
Each tool page has the calculator at the top and a detailed guide below it, with the rules, worked examples and common mistakes. The sections below explain what each tool does and when to use it.
GST tools
GST rates were restructured from 22 September 2025. Most goods and services now fall in two main slabs, 5% and 18%, with 40% for a small list of luxury and sin goods, some exempt items, and special rates such as 3% on gold and 0.25% on rough diamonds.
GST Calculator
Use the GST calculator whenever you need to add GST to a price or take GST out of a price that already includes it. It also splits the tax into CGST and SGST for a sale within your state, or shows IGST for a sale to another state. Shopkeepers use it while quoting, freelancers while raising invoices, and buyers to check a bill.
GSTIN Checker
Before you claim input tax credit or pay a new supplier, check their GST number with the GSTIN checker. It verifies the 15-character format and the check digit, and shows the state, the PAN inside the number and the type of taxpayer. It works offline, so for the legal name and whether the registration is active, confirm on the GST portal as well.
Registration is generally required once aggregate turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for suppliers of goods or ₹20 lakh for suppliers of services, with lower limits in some special category states. Some businesses must register regardless of turnover, for example those making inter-state supplies of goods.
If you are not yet registered and wondering whether you need to be, our GST registration service page explains who must register and what is needed.
Business tools
MSME Category Checker
The MSME category checker tells you whether your enterprise is micro, small or medium under the limits in force from 1 April 2025. Micro means investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore; small means up to ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore; medium means up to ₹125 crore and ₹500 crore. Both conditions must be met. Use it before applying for Udyam registration, a loan scheme or a tender that needs MSME status. The MSME registration page covers the Udyam process.
Presumptive Tax 44AD / 44ADA
Small traders and professionals who do not want to maintain detailed books can declare income on a presumptive basis. The presumptive tax calculator works out the deemed profit — 6% of digital receipts or 8% of cash receipts for a business under 44AD, and 50% of receipts for a professional under 44ADA — and the tax on it.
Loan EMI Calculator
Planning a business loan, a home loan or a car loan? The EMI calculator shows the monthly instalment, the total interest and the total amount you will repay, using the reducing-balance method banks use. Try different tenures to see how much a shorter loan saves, and different rates to see what a small rate cut from your bank is worth.
Income tax tools
This is the largest group. Start with the main calculator, then use the specialised tools for the parts of your income or deductions that need a closer look.
Income Tax Calculator
The income tax calculator compares the old and new regimes for your exact numbers. It applies the current slabs, the standard deduction (₹75,000 in the new regime, ₹50,000 in the old), the 87A rebate with marginal relief, surcharge and 4% cess. Under the new regime, the rebate makes tax nil when taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh.
Deductions and investments
If you are considering the old regime, the 80C and 80D deductions calculator adds up your investments, health insurance and NPS, applies the limits (₹1.5 lakh for 80C; ₹25,000 or ₹50,000 for 80D depending on age) and shows the tax saved at your slab.
Home owners should open the home loan tax benefit calculator. It shows the saving from interest under 24(b), up to ₹2 lakh for a self-occupied house in the old regime, and from principal repayment within 80C.
The NPS tax benefit calculator covers the extra ₹50,000 deduction under 80CCD(1B) for your own contribution in the old regime, and the employer's contribution under 80CCD(2), which is deductible in both regimes.
Capital gains and crypto
Sold shares, mutual funds, property or gold? The capital gains calculator decides whether the gain is short or long term and applies the current rates: 20% on short-term equity gains and 12.5% on long-term gains, with long-term equity gains up to ₹1.25 lakh a year exempt. For property bought before 23 July 2024, it also compares the two options available.
Crypto and other virtual digital assets have their own rules: a flat 30% tax plus cess, no deduction except cost, no set-off of losses, and 1% TDS on sales. The crypto tax calculator applies them.
Advance tax
If your tax after TDS is ₹10,000 or more in a year, you must pay advance tax in instalments. The advance tax calculator shows how much is due by each date — 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December and 100% by 15 March, or the full amount by 15 March for presumptive taxpayers.
TDS for deductors
If you pay rent, professional fees, contract charges, commission or interest as a business, you may have to deduct TDS. The TDS calculator checks the threshold, applies the rate (higher if the payee has no PAN) and shows the net payment. If the TDS was deducted or deposited late, the TDS interest and late fee calculator works out the 1% and 1.5% monthly interest and the ₹200-a-day late return fee.
Savings: PPF Calculator
The PPF calculator shows what your Public Provident Fund deposits will grow to over 15 years or more. PPF interest and maturity are tax-free, and the deposit qualifies under 80C in the old regime.
Salary tools
These help salaried employees understand their pay and the exemptions that apply to it.
- In-hand pay: the salary take-home calculator converts an annual CTC into a monthly in-hand estimate after PF, professional tax and income tax under the new regime. Use it when comparing job offers.
- HRA: the HRA exemption calculator applies the lowest-of-three rule to show how much of your house rent allowance is tax-free. HRA exemption is available only in the old regime.
- Gratuity: leaving a job after five or more years? The gratuity calculator works out the amount under the Payment of Gratuity Act formula, or the formula for those not covered, and shows the tax-free part, up to ₹20 lakh for private employees.
- Leave encashment: at retirement or resignation, the leave encashment calculator applies the four limits, including the ₹25 lakh cap, to find the exempt portion. Leave encashed while still in service is fully taxable.
Filing tools
Use these tools when you are about to file, or when something needs attention after filing.
A good habit is to open your AIS before you file anything. A common reason for notices to individuals is a simple mismatch — interest, dividend, rent or a share sale that banks and brokers reported but the return left out. Matching your return with AIS first, then choosing the form and checking the deadline, avoids many of the problems the later tools in this group deal with.
Before you file
- Which ITR form? — answer five simple questions and see whether ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3 or ITR-4 applies to you. Filing the wrong form gets the return marked defective.
- ITR due date checker — pick your type of income and see your exact deadline, the days left and what happens if you miss it.
- AIS and 26AS explained — choose an entry in your Annual Information Statement to see what it means, where it goes in your return and the mistake that commonly leads to a notice.
- Refund estimator — enter income, TDS and deductions to see whether you can expect a refund or still owe tax, under the better regime.
If you are late or short
- Late filing fee (234F) — the fee for filing after the due date: ₹5,000, or ₹1,000 if total income is up to ₹5 lakh.
- Interest 234A / 234B / 234C — 1% a month for late filing, for short advance tax, and for missed instalments, with part of a month counted as a full month.
After you file
- Refund delay checker — answer a few questions to learn whether the delay is normal, the usual causes and what to check on the portal.
- Notice decoder — pick the section on your notice to see, in plain language, what the department wants, how long you have and how serious it is.
Generators: printable documents
Documents are often the last missing piece before an employer, bank or landlord can act. The three generators create documents you can print or save as PDF. They build the document inside your browser and do not store what you type.
- Rent receipt generator — monthly rent receipts for a range of months, to submit to your employer for HRA, with landlord PAN where needed.
- Form 12BB generator — the declaration of rent, LTA, home-loan interest and deductions that you give your employer so the correct TDS is deducted.
- Salary slip generator — a monthly payslip with earnings, deductions and net pay in words, for small businesses, startups and household employers.
Which tool do I need? Common situations
Salaried employee
Start in the income tax calculator to choose your regime for the year. If you pay rent and lean towards the old regime, check the HRA exemption, generate rent receipts and fill Form 12BB for your employer. Comparing a job offer? The salary take-home calculator shows the real monthly figure. At filing time, the ITR form tool, AIS explainer and refund estimator take you through the return.
Freelancer or consultant
Your clients may deduct TDS on your fees, so check AIS for every client's entry. The presumptive tax calculator shows the tax if you opt for 44ADA, and the advance tax calculator tells you what to pay by each instalment date, since no employer is deducting tax for you. If your turnover makes GST registration necessary, the GST calculator helps you price invoices.
Small business owner
Use the GST calculator for pricing and the GSTIN checker for every new supplier. The MSME checker confirms your Udyam category. If you pay rent or professional fees, the TDS calculator tells you how much to deduct, and the TDS interest tool shows the cost if you were late. For staff, the salary slip generator handles monthly payslips; for a loan, the EMI calculator helps you plan.
Investor
After selling shares, mutual funds, gold or property, run the capital gains calculator. Crypto trades need the crypto tax calculator. For long-term safe savings, compare PPF and NPS. Large gains often trigger advance tax, so check the advance tax calculator too, and the ITR form tool, because capital gains move you out of the simplest form.
Landlord
Rent you receive is taxed as house property income after a 30% standard deduction; check that your tenant's TDS, if any, appears in AIS. If you have a home loan on a let-out house, the home loan tax benefit calculator shows the interest you can set against rent. Tenants will often ask you to sign rent receipts — the generator makes them for you to sign.
Senior citizen or pensioner
Pension is taxed as salary, so the standard deduction applies. In the old regime, the basic exemption is ₹3 lakh at 60 and ₹5 lakh at 80, interest up to ₹50,000 is deductible under 80TTB, and the 80D limit for your own health insurance rises to ₹50,000. Run the income tax calculator with your age to see which regime suits you, and the refund estimator if banks have deducted TDS on your deposit interest.
New GST registrant
First, verify your own GSTIN with the checker and share it correctly on invoices. Use the GST calculator to work out CGST and SGST or IGST on each sale. Check your suppliers' GSTINs before claiming input tax credit, and keep the monthly return dates in the calendar below in front of you from the first month.
How the tools are kept up to date
Tax numbers change with each Budget and each notification. So every rate, slab, limit and deduction the calculators use — tax slabs for both regimes, standard deduction, rebate, surcharge, cess, 80C and 80D limits, capital gains rates, late fee — is kept in one central rules table, maintained financial year by financial year.
Rules are stored per financial year because returns are always filed for a past year. Someone filing for last year needs last year's rules, while someone planning advance tax needs the current year's. Keeping each year separate means a tool can apply the right rules for the year you choose.
The TaxCaller team updates this table when rules change, and the calculators read from it, so one correction updates every tool that uses that number. The current rules are the same for FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27, and the slabs shown on the income tax pages come from this table. The tax calendar on the site is maintained the same way.
Note: the Income-tax Act, 2025 is in force from 1 April 2026 and renumbers the familiar sections (and uses the term "tax year"). The tools keep the well-known numbers such as 80C, 87A and 234F so that you can match them with older documents, while applying the rates shown.
Privacy: what happens to what you type
All the calculators run inside your browser. The numbers you enter are processed on your own device and are not sent to our server while you calculate.
- Calculators remember your last entries in your own browser, so the form is refilled when you come back. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- The generators (rent receipt, Form 12BB, salary slip) do not save anything; you fill them fresh each time.
- No login, mobile number or email is needed to use any tool.
- Only if you choose to send an enquiry to an expert from a tool page does a short summary of your result go with your message, so the expert knows what you were looking at.
Yearly tax calendar at a glance
These are the key recurring dates for individuals and small businesses. Due dates can be extended by the government in a particular year, so always confirm close to the deadline.
| Date | What is due |
|---|---|
| 7th of every month | Deposit TDS deducted in the previous month (for March, by 30 April) |
| 11th of every month | GSTR-1 for monthly GST filers |
| 15th of every month | PF and ESI contributions for the previous month |
| 20th of every month | GSTR-3B and GST payment for monthly filers |
| 15 June | Advance tax — 1st instalment (15%); Form 16 to employees |
| 31 July | ITR due date for salaried and other individuals not needing audit (ITR-1, ITR-2); TDS return for April–June |
| 15 September | Advance tax — 2nd instalment (45%) |
| 30 September | Tax audit report for businesses needing audit |
| 31 October | ITR due date for audit cases; TDS return for July–September |
| 15 December | Advance tax — 3rd instalment (75%) |
| 31 December | Last date for a belated ITR; GST annual return (GSTR-9) for the previous year |
| 31 January | TDS return for October–December |
| 15 March | Advance tax — last instalment (100%), including presumptive taxpayers |
| 31 March | Last date for tax-saving investments for the year (old regime) |
| 31 May | TDS return for January–March |
For business and professional returns not needing audit, and for your exact deadline in a given year, use the due date checker. Official dates and extensions are published on the income tax portal.
What calculators can and cannot do
A calculator is only as good as the numbers you put in and the situation it was built for. Our tools apply the standard rules correctly for common cases, but they cannot see your full picture.
- They rely on your inputs. If a salary figure, purchase date or TDS amount is wrong, the result will be wrong too. Use your Form 16, AIS, broker statements and invoices, not memory.
- They simplify. For example, the PPF tool assumes deposits at the start of each year, and the take-home calculator assumes the new regime. Each tool page explains its assumptions.
- They do not cover every exception. Residential status for NRIs, clubbing of income, set-off and carry-forward of losses, exemptions on reinvestment of capital gains, and GST place-of-supply questions often need judgement.
- They do not file anything. A result is an estimate. Your return, your GST filing or your reply to a notice must still be prepared and submitted on the official portals.
- They cannot read your notices or portal data. The notice decoder and AIS explainer describe what an item usually means; your specific case may differ.
For many everyday questions, a calculator is all you need: the GST on a quote, the EMI on a loan, whether your HRA claim makes sense, or roughly how much refund to expect. Use the result to plan, and keep the page open while you file so you can match each figure.
When the stakes are high — a large capital gain, a business with mixed income, a scrutiny notice, a GST mismatch or an old year that needs correcting — an expert review is worth more than any calculator. That is also true when the calculator's result surprises you: it is often a sign that one input or assumption does not fit your case.

Free tools — common questions
Are these tax and GST calculators completely free?
Yes. All 30 tools are free to use as often as you like, with no sign-up, login, mobile number or email needed. There are no locked features or paid versions of the calculators. If you want an expert to check your numbers or do the filing, that is a separate paid service, and the fee is told to you before any work starts.
Do you store the income, PAN or salary details I enter?
No. The calculators and generators run inside your browser, so what you type is processed on your own device and not sent to our server. Calculators remember your last entries only in your own browser to refill the form next time. Generators save nothing. A short result summary is shared only if you choose to send an enquiry to an expert.
Which financial year do the calculators follow?
The tools use a central rules table maintained for each financial year. The current income tax rules are the same for FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27, so the slabs, standard deduction, rebate and limits shown apply to both. Where a tool lets you choose the year, pick the year in which the income was earned.
Can I file my income tax return or GST return using these tools?
No. The tools calculate, check and explain, but they do not file anything. Income tax returns are filed on the income tax e-filing portal and GST returns on the GST portal, either by you or by someone you authorise. Use the tool results to prepare and check your figures before you file.
How accurate are the results?
The tools apply the standard rules and rates correctly for common situations, and each page explains its assumptions. Accuracy then depends on your inputs and on whether your case fits the standard rules. Unusual situations, such as NRI status, losses carried forward or reinvestment exemptions, can change the answer, so treat results as a well-founded estimate.
Do the tools work on a mobile phone?
Yes. Every tool page works in a mobile browser, and results update as you type. The generators also work on phones; use your browser's print or share option to save the rent receipt, Form 12BB or salary slip as a PDF. For printing on paper, a laptop with a printer is usually easier.
Why do the tools still use section numbers like 80C and 87A?
The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026 and renumbers the old sections. Most people, employers and documents still refer to the familiar numbers such as 80C, 87A, 234F and 44AD, so the tools keep them for easy matching. The rates and limits applied are the ones shown on each page.
Which tool should I use first if I am filing my return for the first time?
Start with the income tax calculator to see your tax under both regimes. Then use the Which ITR form tool to choose the right form and the due date checker to see your deadline. Open your AIS alongside the AIS explainer so every income reported about you is included before you file.
Is there a tool for GST registration or Udyam registration itself?
The tools help you prepare: the GST calculator and GSTIN checker for day-to-day GST work, and the MSME category checker to find your Udyam category. The registrations themselves are done on the official GST and Udyam portals. If you prefer, TaxCaller's team can handle GST registration and MSME registration for you.
What should I do if two tools give me different answers?
First check that the inputs are the same, especially the financial year, the regime and whether amounts are monthly or yearly. Some tools make simplifying assumptions, such as the take-home calculator using the new regime. If the difference remains after matching inputs, ask an expert to look at it, since it usually means a detail of your case needs judgement.
How often are new tools added?
New tools are added when there is a common question that a calculator can answer reliably, and existing tools are updated whenever rates or limits change. If there is a calculation you need that is not here, you can tell us through the expert enquiry form on any tool page, and we will consider it for a future tool.
